Presentation of the seminar

1. Aims

Philform is a research seminar devoted to formal philosophy, which aims at using logical and mathematical methods in order to analyze philosophical concepts. Typically, Philform is a place where people come to propose and discuss formal frameworks designed to capture such notions as knowledge, consequence and intension, to give a few examples.

Philform has at least two institutional functions. First, it is meant to be a place for discussion inside the IHPST, giving the opportunity to all researchers to present their on-going work or to learn together about some specific topic. This is why a significant number of sessions each year are devoted to presentations by PhD students and collective readings of recent papers. Second, Philform is a place for interaction with the international research community in philosophical logic. This is why Philform is pleased to invite some well-known researchers from other institutions to present their achievements.
